Best Things To Do In The Northwest Territories - Canada Road Trip Travel Documentary Part22/25/2019 We also landed a few times , which gave us the opportunity to visit Virginia Falls, an amazing 315 foot waterfall on the South Nahanni River.
Nahanni National Park is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen in my life! Next, we wanted to visit Canada's Western Arctic, so we drove through the Yukon, up the Dempster Highway, past the Arctic Circle, and into the little town of Inuvik. This was our first time in the Arctic and it was such a special experience to meet the locals and visit the local attractions such as the igloo church and the community greenhouse . We also visited the Western Arctic Regional Visitor Center and learned about the local Inuvialuit and Gwichin people. Many people can enjoy especially in our part of the world, the fresh air, the fresh water that we have out there and a lot of unspoiled and untouched lands. It's a big world out there and you know you've got to share. Nothing is really owned by anybody. Everyone was so excited to show us around and one local even brought us out on his boat to experience the Mackenzie Delta . We navigated through narrow channels, saw beavers gathering sticks for their dam and a massive eagle that decided to lead the way. We also did some fishing for northern pike and saw a flock of tundra swans congregating in the nearby lake. Last but not least , we couldn't leave the Northwest Territories without seeing the Arctic Ocean so we drove the Mackenzie Valley Highway to Tuktoyaktuk. The first Highway in Canada to reach the Arctic Ocean. Surrounded by pingos, tundra, and ocean, Tuktoyaktuk is a charming Inuvialuit hamlet that we loved exploring. We learned about some of the local culture, tried some local foods , wore traditional clothing, and of course , dipped our toes in the Arctic Ocean. We even climbed one of the pingos for views of the surrounding area. We're so grateful that we had the opportunity to visit Canada's Western Arctic and learn about a part of Canada that most people most know nothing about. It really felt that we had reached the top of the world. From sleeping on a floating barge on a secluded lake, to flying over the world's first World Heritage Site, to taking a dip in the Arctic Ocean. the Northwest Territories has given us memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much for watching this episode! Best Things To Do In The Northwest Territories - Canada Road Trip Travel Documentary Part12/25/2019 We're in the Northwest Territories, our 9th stop during our 150-day road trip across Canada. Covering over one million square kilometres with a population of a small town, the Northwest Territories is about as wild as it gets! With boreal forest, arctic tundra, some of Canada's best waterfalls, a vibrant Aboriginal culture, and boundless wilderness, the Northwest Territories is an adventurer's paradise.
We started our visit in Yellowknife, the Northwest Territories' capital city. Here, we toured the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Center, where we learned about the territories' rich Aboriginal culture, the infamous story of the Mad Trapper, the territories' wildlife and ecology, and the history of the Mooseskin Boat. An incredible work of human ingenuity online casinos for usa players! Afterwards we tried some delicious local food and then walked up to the Bush Pilots Monument for incredible views over Yellowknife and the surrounding area. Next on the adventure was taking a float plane to Yellow Dod Lodge, which is located between two beautiful lakes. This was our first time on a float plane and it was incredible to look down at all the wild scenery before landing on Graham Lake for three nights of secluded paradise. As soon as were arrived, we jumped in a boat and went fishing for lake trout and it didn't take us long to catch our dinner. In fact, I caught my first fish. It was so exciting to feel the fight of the fish but I was so surprised by how hard it was to reel in . Our days were filled exploring the lakes, fishing, hiking to beautiful lookout points and jumping into the lake. And our nights were equally incredible! We went to a secluded island and sat next to a campfire while mingling with our new friends from around the world . We also spent some time in a hot tub heated by wood fire while relaxing under the stars . But perhaps our most memorable experience was being able to spend the night on a floating barge. Powered by a motor, we drove the boat to a calm bay, anchored down and spent the night alone in wilderness surrounded by complete silence. An experience we'll never forget! The next morning we flew back to Yellowknife and made our way to Alexandra Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in the Northwest Territories. It was amazing to stand right on the edge of the waterfall and watch the water drop 32 meters below us. Then, not too far downstream was Louise Falls, another incredible waterfall with a distinct square-like pattern that made it look almost unnatural. Next we drove to Fort Simpson, where we took another float plane to tour Nahanni National Park. Words cannot describe the beauty we saw in the world's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Nahanni encompasses territory that's found nowhere else in the world It's like going to see Banff and Jasper, the Columbia Icefields, Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls all in one. So you have the whole area to yourself when you want to go someplace or get out on the river by boat or go flying back in the mountains.. there's nobody else there! It was absolutely jaw-dropping to lookdown at deep canyons, a series of plateaus, sharp mountain peaks, hot springs, and valleys intertwined with snaking rivers and turquoise coloured lakes . Oh my gosh that is so rich. Spicy too. And that naan is so garlic-y but also it is really buttery too which I love.
I just can't stop dipping it in the sauce guys. Look at that. Mmmm. Delicious. Haha. They just wished a passenger a happy flight and a spooky Halloween. That is pretty funny. And over here guys you can buy some Canadian souvenirs. I can't think of anything more Canadian than this. Maple Smoked Salmon. And you can also get pure Maple Syrup as well. And in all kinds of different containers. Check out the one down here. That is my favorite. So one of the interesting things about Canadian souvenirs is that they are not the typical type of thing you'll find an actual Canadian grocery store. Like this for instance milk chocolate with Maple and Sea Salt. I've never seen that in any Canadian grocery store. So guys I'm going to be flying with Air Canada today. And one very unfortunate thing, on a long flight like this, I'd love to get an aisle seat. I want to have access to the toilets. I want to be able to stretch my legs and just get up. I'll have to get over somebody but unfortunately this is the completely packed flight. Literally every seat is full. I couldn't get. I mean I got here and asked early to ask for a seat change. Absolutely nothing can be done. So I will be in the middle which is the worst. I'd rather actually get a window seat so I can film outside but yeah it is what it is unfortunately nothing can be done this time but my question for all of you is which seat do you prefer? Do you like aisle, middle or window? Does it change based on the length of the flight? Let me know. Guys the ridiculous outfit of shorts, socks, shoes and a jacket. Actually right now in Canada the temperature is zero degrees and by the time I get to Mumbai it is going to be in the 30s so it is going to be an incredible shocking change in temperature and I will be shedding the jacket, probably the shoes, probably the socks and wearing mostly flips flops, t-shirts and shorts on this trip. Oh my gosh it is a bit like herding cats with all of those different zones. I'm in zone 5. But anyways we're finally boarding now. And of my gosh the excitement is starting to build. Like I'm going back to India guys. I'm so excited for this. So so excited for this. I actually ended up with quite a bit of leg room. Guys time for a much needed update. I've made it to India! Mumbai. The biggest city of India. Wow! This is crazy. Like I'm so tired but I feel like I've got this sudden jolt of adrenaline now that I'm here. I'm so excited to be here. And yeah it is basically just have to go through Immigration, get my bag and then find a cab. Guys Immigration was an absolute breeze. Like I can't believe it. The last time I came to Delhi it probably took me over 2 hours to get through. This time not even 5 minutes. So I was basically first in line. But I walked really quick out of the plane and that is my secret. I kind of like catapulted ahead of all of the other passengers. Guys I've arrived at the hotel. And I have to say like I am completely knackered. It is 2am in the morning. It took a little while to actually arrange a cab, get some money. Like none of the ATMs worked with my card. And so I spent a half an hour doing that. I waited in line for a cab for an hour. Um I didn't have my hotel address plotted on Google Maps so it took about five different tries for my cab driver to find the hotel. So I'm going to say goodbye for now and I'll have more India travel and food videos coming for you really soon. From Las Vegas, Nevada this is Poker Night in America. (upbeat jazz music) - Welcome to Poker Night in America with Joe Stapleton, I'm Chris Hanson. We're headed back to Vegas for our Twitch celebrity cash game. - You know I never thought I'd be saying Twitch and celebrity in the same sentence, but that's the world we live in apparently, kappa. Look it up, gramps.
- [Hanson] The twitch celebrity cash game from Vegas, Phil Hellmuth, no surprise, he likes to go in low and build it up, but how much money people are in for is starting to really pile up. - Yeah absolutely, and especially Antonio Esfandiari, he's down more right now than most people bought in for in the first place. - We were thinking of pulling an Antonio and actually studying the game. I read on the internet three days ago Antonio decided to learn. (laughter) It's true, did you guys not see, it was on F5 Poker. - I didn't see it. - Antonio starts to learn how to play poker. - [Hellmuth] I thought he was going to remain stupid the rest of his life, he was going to coast on the 18 million he won and never learn or get better. 'Cause why bother? - [Laak] Joe, Chicago Joey made a podcast. - A guy like me, no matter how many Hold'Em bracelets I win, I'm always studying and looking. - [Stapleton] Yeah, but Phil's mostly studying his own books . - [Laak] Chicago Joey did a podcast a week ago, and on minute 30-- - [Stapleton] The ones he wrote. Antonio revealed that he watches first like what do you call it, those training video things right. - [Hanson] Kings for Somerville, and JCarver makes it 300. - What did you watch check this website? - It's confidential. - [O'Brien] It was just for the show. - Just for the show. - [Laak] I only made it public that he started to learn because he told the world first. I wouldn't of ever outed him if he wanted to secretly learn. - Honestly I thought his ego was too big to learn. - [Stapleton] Queen high flop is a good look for Kings, Scott Ball's caught a piece. - [O'Brien] His brain is just too smart. - [Hellmuth] You have to learn, Antonio and see what they're doing, yet you have to-- - Do you know how much video time you're going to have to log before you-- - You're so much better than me, yet you won't play me heads up for a taser gun. Like why won't you do that? - I told you we can just go play heads up, I will go play heads up-- - Let's play heads up. - I like playing 5, 10K a pop. - Let's play a 100K and winner shoots the loser with a taser gun. I want the taser gun bonus. - Jason, how many hours do you think he has to watch of videos before he learns something? Is it like 10? - 20 minutes, not even. - 20 minutes. - It takes nothing. - He's definitely learning, you can see from his- He's learning pretty well. - He's like Bradley Cooper in Limitless, he just-- - Oh yeah like Limitless, the film. - Yeah, but he lost his supply. - Oh, he lost his supply of the pills. That's why he's going to watch the videos. Antonio let's watch Jason Somerville's Running Up. It's fun, it's entertaining, and he talks about like abusing button power, it's great. - Antonio has been on there before. - That's true. I heard about the flip. He got me stuck the same number and then I got an out just like-- - He had me almost for a 72 I think, right? - He flipped at 36 right? - 36. - Yeah you were at 18, flip for 18 each. - We were at 18 going to 36? That was nice. - We were at 18 going to 27, and then I got, I started working it back after that win. He decided if he plays this in the future he's quitting at 18. - [Esfandiari] Can I get chips please? What am I in, 30? - Yes. - 20 please. - [Stapleton] Good fold by Scott. - [Hanson] Antonio buying another 20,000 in chips, that puts him in for 50K. - [Stapleton] Hi-ya! - Yeah I've now lost 36K flips to both of you and Phil Laak, that's kind of cool, that's kind of a cool, little story. Almost better than having 70K from both, the combined both of you. - Priceless story. - Priceless. My two biggest, or two of my three biggest coin flips, is to you two. - There you go. - Thank you. - [Stapleton] The Twitchers versus the seniors, with Dan O'Brien straddling this hand. As a blind raise under the gun, you got to put it out there before you even see what your cards are. - [O'Brien] This is a raise, right? - Yes, I looked at my cards and then I put 200 out. In that order. - [Esfandiari] The greatest we have, Phil Laak. - [Stapleton] So we're four ways to this flop. - You at least have to study to see what the kids are doing, right like, they'll get locked into one strategy and they all think everything's, this is the way to play. Every time they use the word standard and then I have to figure out a way to beat their standard. That's why I look. - You figured it out. - [Stapleton] What would Phil do? - Yeah, and then all I got to do and go to the internet, oh this is their new standard, okay then I'll do that and this and this. - All in. - [Dealer] All in. - [Hanson] What website do you go to figure out the new standard, Stapes, any idea? - PhillHellmuth.com, is that a thing? - That might be the new standard. - Elky's all in with 10 high, good thing nobody had a queen. - [Laak] Elky is that going to hurt me when I find out what you had? - Eh, no, it's not that bad. I had outs. - Oh damn, it's going to hurt, huh? You had a five-seven. - Even worse. - [Stapleton] Much better when Elky lets the cards do the talking. - Why, could you beat 9-10, Phil? - Unless he had a queen. - Thank you Vicki. - But he's not folding a queen obviously. - I could beat no pair, you had no pair? - I had no pair. A lot of pair draws though, a lot of draws. - [Voiceover] From more from Poker Night visit pokernight.com or find us on Twitch, Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube, where you can see completely episodes and unedited live streams. - [Voiceover] Twitch celebrity cash game coming to you tonight on Poker Night in America from Las Vegas. - [Esfandiari] Mr. Somerville, I'm ready for you. Let's play a big one. - [Hanson] How many World Series of Poker bracelets do we have around the table? - [Stapleton] Well the only ones that count are Phil's 14. - [Hanson] Elky's got bracelets, right? - [Stapleton] Elky's got one or two. - [Hanson] No I mean he's wearing, he's very fashionable-- - [Stapleton] He does have some bracelets, yes. - [Hanson] That's what I meant, I'm sorry. - [Stapleton] He owns wrist accessories, correct. - [Hanson] And right on cue, Elky raises with ace-king suited. - [Hanson] Antonio Esfandiari in the small blind is going to raise to 1,200 with ace-queen. There's aces everywhere around this table. - I wonder if my read is like, "oops." - Ding, ding, ding, ding. - [Stapleton] Scott just calls with two 10's and he is probably going to have to call a little bit more because I think Elky is probably going to pile it in here. - I thought Elky was going all in-- - I was right then. - My read was right. - Yeah, I think those can go back. - Yeah, feels good when that happens. Goes fold, fold 200. - [Hanson] So Elky is all in for 3,200 and Esfandiari is going to bet enough to put Ball all in. - [Stapleton] These two put Scott at a bad spot. - [Hanson] He's got the best hand! - [Lew] Nice leading with seven high. - [Laak] I'm not worried about the deuce-seven anymore. - [Lew] They might be isolating. - Sad thing is this is like a super-nutty fold, I'm not even afraid of Antonio, but I'm so afraid of Elky. - Whatever, I just want to get the dead money in there. - Nice going Antonio, I have better than ace-jack. - Yeah you got me. - [Stapleton] Scott just not rolled the way they are, gets out of the way. - [O'Brien] Flipping one card? - [Hellmuth] Elky had the nuts, so I laid down-- - [Laak] Yeah, and that's the rule. - [Esfandiari] Yeah, yeah whatever. - Ohhh. - [Stapleton] Ten on the flop. - Tens. - What? - Tens? - You had a set of tens? - Yeah. - [Stapleton] Forget about Elky winning this hand, if you folded tens there, how do you sleep tonight? Or ever again? (laughter) - Oh the nut straight, queen-nine suited. - [Stapleton] Not now Phil, come on, who calls with queen-nine? - [Grospellier] Pretty good for me, I guess. - [Stapleton] Certainly not you. - [O'Brien] Guess so. - It would have beeen hard to win post-flop on that board. - [Hanson] Elky's going to double up, Scott Ball's going to be left with a bad taste in his mouth. - [Stapleton] And Antonio continues to be stuck. - [Hanson] He's in this game for 50K now. - [Stapleton] Antonio's losing 50K but at least he's getting an education. - [Hanson] He either could've done three years at a private school or sit next to Phil, same difference. - [Stapleton] This is obviously more valuable. - If I had another 3,000 I would've called. And there's Antonio, there's Antonio who's vision isn't open right now, he doesn't see you're super strong so he just re-raises 'cause he's on tilt. I can't get to the flop anyway. And he's eating, he's supposed to be playing really tight. - [Grospellier] That's why he's mixing it up. - No, then you raised twice, and then they re-raised you twice, and so you tightened down your range like I knew you would, but they don't think, like there's no reading ability, there's not math, there's no logic, just Antonio on tilt. - [Laak] We call that AOT, Antonio on Tilt. - Antonio on Tilt. - [Lew] Antonio on Tilt. - That's it, you know. Here he goes again. - Raise. - There's a song, you know that song, Phil? - Here I go again on my own. - Oh yeah. - Oh, so out of key. Oh that's horrible. - We're going to have an entire musical collage we can put together between the rapping, the singing, we'll have it all ready. Picking the right college is one of the most important first steps toward a successful college experience, career and future. The simple steps below will point you in the right direction.
1. In order to make the right college choice, determine what your strengths are and start from there. Focus on the types of careers you will enjoy doing in the future, and try not to base your career evaluation on money alone. Dig deep into yourself to find out what really moves you-- what you enjoy, and then find out everything about your choice(s). Review the daily ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of the actual jobs and the steps needed for success. If you get the opportunity to speak with someone who does that particular job, make sure you ask lots of detailed questions. Find out what college courses are needed to complete your degree, and confirm that it’s the right career choice for you. Do not base your choices on what your friends are doing, it’s your life, it’s your future, it’s your choice. Go online to research different careers that interest you in addition to asking your high school guidance counselor for advice and information, your parents for their opinions and advice and extended family and friends for their views, but make sure that you are the one to make the final decision. 2. Figure out your personal criteria for choosing a college. Write down where you might want to live for the next four years (away or close to home); distinguish the college atmosphere you’re looking for (urban, rural, small college town or city atmosphere, etc.), and find out tuition information and financial aid/scholarship options. 3. After you figure out #1 & #2, start looking for the colleges that fit your career choice(s) and criteria and collect as much information about each college. Create a list and categorize your choices into three sections: “dream college picks” “realistic college picks” and “safe college picks.” Go online to research each of your college/university picks and do virtual tours before you go on an actual campus tour (find out when the campus tours are). Request an information package to be sent to your home and make sure that you meet the minimum requirements for each college pick. Remember, there is college help always. 4. Visit each campus to check them out personally and get a real feel for each school. This will give you an opportunity talk to students, faculty members, and administrators. If possible, stay overnight in a dorm to see what living at the college is really like. *You should always visit the colleges you’re most interested in attending (maybe not so easy with overseas colleges). 5. Apply to all of your college picks, and yes! Even the dream picks—you never know. Good luck. Many people capable of translating documents are younger (students) or older (retired) and need real translator jobs advice to avoid being scammed.
I’d like to provide that real translator jobs advice for those wishing to offer this much-needed service. There are literally millions of small businesses that are looking for a free-lance translator. There are also millions of people capable of doing these home jobs, all they need is real translator jobs advice. Think about the Internet for a moment. Every website owner wants worldwide traffic to come to his or her website, but in reality, people only go to websites that they can read and understand. This is why the best websites come in several languages - you click the flag to get the available language of your choice. I would love to have versions of this website in other languages. Each additional major language provides access to at least 100,000,000 more visitors! Who would not want that? However, webmasters need competent, reliable translators to do the work. With real translator jobs advice like this and help to get started, people with an additional language skill can make all the money they need translating documents like sales letters, invoices and websites with no qualifications. People also can make money by writing or editing resumes on different languages. The problem for translators is the scams like asking you to pay up-front fees for registration, when they have no intention of finding you work. There are many jobs for linguists, especially for linguists whose mother tongue is English, because English-speaking peoples are notoriously unwilling to learn foreign languages. This is perfect for people of those countries who do speak a second language. If you are interested in self-employed jobs for linguists as a career, you should read on for suggestions and advice from my own experience of forty years. With the increasing volume of International business and globalisation, the demand for English linguists can only rise. You must have seen the absolutely awful Chinese translations that accompany decent Chinese products. They come about because Chinese are translating into English. You could put this right, if English is your mother tongue, but you speak Chinese too. Or any other language. There are more countries joining the European Community all the time and so every manual and document needs to be translated. And that is just in Europe! These countries sell all over the world. Don’t forget to check out our post ‘Jobs For Linguists’ where we have written about it more fully. If you want to work as a full-time translator for company documents, you will have to look at big pretty big companies, but there are lots of part-time jobs for smaller companies that cannot afford a full-time translator. in fact, the only real way to become a full-time translator for company affairs is by building up your reputation as a proficient translator first.
Translator For CompanyIt is obvious that being the official translator for company documents is a very responsible job, so you should bear that in mind when making your job applications. The company will probably be looking for older, very experienced translators because their business relies on the translator being accurate. The fact is that if you want to be a full-time translator for a company you will need loads of experience. So where do you do about getting that? The government is one of the best places to try, but if you can only speak the common European languages like French, German and Spanish, you will find it difficult. Unless you take a really radical, pro-active approach. Translators for serious companies (and governments) are required to only translate back into their mother tongue, so you will have access to dictionaries and other books. If you want to translate for a living, but your second language is a common one, why not do something about it? For example, if your second language is German, why not go to the Netherlands and learn Dutch or Denmark and learn Danish? The languages are very closely related so you could learn then quickly. Other examples are: Spanish and Portuguese and Spanish and Italian. By narrowing down your language skills to a focus where there is less competition, you will obviously increase your chances of getting a job. And getting that all-important first job is what puts you on the ladder to higher things like working as a translator for company documents and web sites. You have to learn how to get your foot on the ladder and that means not having so many other people's feet on the same rung as yours. Branch out and you will find that your skills are in high demand. You may say, OK, but most international business is carried out in English, and this is true, but there are other important exceptions. Local authorities in many countries are obliged to provide translations of documents to foreign nationals with a density over 3%. This opens the field right up. Marriage documents and death certificates et cetera have to be translated under these rules. I know of a Thai woman in a small town South Wales who demanded her social security document in Thai. It took a while, but she to them. Sometimes you have to think laterally when looking for a job, but thankfully for translators there are loads of opportunities worldwide. If you have your heart set on being a company translator for documents and so forth, bear in mind what I have mentioned above. The work is out there, translators for company affairs are in high demand, but it is easier not to go for the top four languages. In order to be able to offer professional translation services there are a few things that you should do by way of preparation. We will assume that you will be working from home and that you will be using a computer for communication.
First: prepare a quiet area for yourself where you can go to work and concentrate. The ideal solution is an office in a spare bedroom, but it is not necessary. You will need a desk and some shelves for your resources like dictionaries and grammar books. I also find it useful to have an encyclopaedia, in case there is a word in English that I do not understand. (The meaning of 'torque' has eluded me for 25 years). Second: prepare your computer by giving it a very thorough cleaning with good antivirus software. Get a good email client like Outlook or a decent free one like Opera. you will also need a suite of office software. Microsoft Office is good but so is Open Office and it is free. Three: you will need to think about the privacy of your clients' data, so it is a good idea to buy a removable USB hard drive, which you can use just for your professional translation services business. It is easy to take away with you too. Four: prepare yourself for action by learning how to use all these new gadgets before you need to use them in earnest. You can do this by preparing your curriculum vitae (your CV). hen you have finished it, save a copy on a memory stick and email it to yourself from an Internet Cafe. If it gets through, you have a good chance. Why? Because translation bureaus deal with businesses every day that take their Internet security very seriously, so they have to too. If there is just a whiff of a virus in your CV or your email, it will not pass the bureaus' firewalls and it will never be read. it is surprising how many people's computers fail this test. Five: use a search engine to discover the bureaus. Search on terms like: translation bureaus, translation bureaux, translation agencies and linguistic services. Then save about 20 of the ones you like the look of to a folder in your 'Favourites'. There are two basic types of application to consider: 1] specific and 2] general. 1] If you see a specific job that you want to do, it will probably have a reference number, put that and your name in the title of the email with the reference number first, because the project manager may sort on that. 2] You should aim to get your name on the books of a dozen translation agencies. When you send your CV to them put your name in the subject of the email with the word 'translator' after it. In your CV, be sure to list the languages you speak, your experience, your level of language training, such as language courses you have attended and translation specialties like legal translation, technical translation, medical translation, website translation or business translation. Traditional qualifications are not usually necessary, but they might help; being able to provide a high quality translation of a document is more important to a company. In fact, professional standards and document translation quality are what count. Translators for reputable agencies only translate back into their mother tongue, so proof that you know the grammar and syntax of your own language is useful. State what your mother language is - English, French, Italian, German or whatever, because it might not be clear especially in cases of dual nationality. For this reason, it is imperative that you do not have any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in any communication with the agencies. Look at the agency's website and try to find out the rates of pay. If you are not happy with these do not apply or include your own rates if you like. They may file you under 'use in emergencies only' if you ask too much. Needless to say, bureaus have deadlines and need to meet these in order to provide professional translation services to their clients. This means that the bureau will require professional translation services from you. |
